CONSTRUCTIVE FEEDBACK

LEARN THE RIGHT WAY TO GIVE FEEDBACK
Since I started my DRIVEN videos many people had their opinion about it, some like it some didn’t.
The ones that didn’t usually don’t see the benefit in it and that is fine.
I’m not doing this for them but for people who try to get further faster.
I have a group of people that I share my content with before I post it.
In the beginning, that group was bigger but I started to cut it down to a few after I received feedback such as Fine, OK, Good, I like it, I don’t like it.
I would usually ask “What do you think of it and how can I improve it?”
And Ok, Fine, Good, Bad…means nothing. There is no value in it.
Storytime
When I was working at this company back home, I was in the office with this gentleman called Josip Kovač.
I mention him before in some of my Driven videos and here it is again haha
Kovač was by far the smartest man I know. Just an outstanding guy.
He would write books on various subjects and all books were great.
He would always finish a chapter and give it to me and said “PLEASE TELL ME WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS CHAPTER?”
I’m like WHAT? To tell you what’s wrong with it? Why?
He replies “I know the chapter is good but I need to find out where can I make it better!”
How crazy is that?
He intentionally let himself exposed in order to improve his work!
How many of us would do that? Very few…
I’m doing it now because he was right and now I’m realizing benefits from it
Back to the subject.
Constructive feedback.
Constructive feedback is not I DON’T LIKE IT! Again, that is nothing, that is just a thought, your opinion which is not constructive at all.
Here is how to give the right feedback.
It combines several parts:
Time – set the time
Encouragement – let them know you value their work
Experience – share your personal experience
Honesty – Ake then can you be honest
Value – tell them about the value of your feedback and what it might mean for them
Accountability – Hold them accountable for their action
This is how it looks
A friend of mine calls me as said:
Hey man, do you have a minute to talk? I said Sure – part 1. Time
Man, I been following your Driven and I really like it. I think I watch all of them and I really like the concept of it, I like the value in it but I think you can make it even better. -part 2. Encouragement
I know some people are doing similar things as you do and they are making some mistakes that I really don’t want you to do. – part 3. The experience
Can I be honest with you? – part 4. Honesty
I said Sure man, Talk to me.
I love it but I think you need to have the intro and the outro. Now I know it takes time to edit all that but it will make Driven look way more professional and you might grab some bigger audience because people should hear what you have to say. You have great content now you upgrade it with the beginning and the end. – part 5. Value
Can you do that for next Driven? – part 6. Accountability
You see THAT is constructive feedback done right!
Listening to any kind of feedback is not easy!
People will first misinterpret it as aggressive and you trying to put them down.
Most of them will be very defensive about it so be ready for that kind of feedback as well.
The ones that understand constructive feedback will be happy that you took your time for them.
So thank you Sanio and to everybody who supports me and giving me their constructive feedback!
