How to crush your ego!
It’s true! Ego is a motherfucker!
Everybody has one, regardless of who denies it or not, we all have one and Ego never dies.
The ego acts as toxic in our lives as it has the power to destroy you in various ways. So the early you get rid of your ego, the better you turn out yourself.
You know, there is a difference between confidence and overconfidence (having an ego trip).
When you are confident, you say “I can do it” but when you are overconfident, you say “Only I can do it“.
This gives rise to the ego which comes naturally in a person.
I can’t tell you how many good ideas, good business ideas have been crushed because of the ego.
How many relationships have been ruined, or for that matter, even war started all because of the ego.
There is this company in my city, will not mention its name, but they always keep searching for new employees. And I’m like “Why do they need so many, what is that they are doing so well. Seems like they need hundreds of people to work for them.”
Turns out, it’s not that they are as successful in business and they are expanding, but people can not deal with the egos of people that are working there, especially high management.
Can you believe it?
People will not work for you because of your ego. As I heard the salary in that company is pretty good, but still people refuse to work in that kind of organization.
I am jet to meet somebody that has an ego problem and who is successful.
Our Ego keeps comparing us to others, and that is the beginning fo the problem.
If our luck and our self-esteem depend only on us being better then somebody, or we feel fulfilled only if our stories or achievements are better then somebody else’s that we have a big problem to deal with.
There is a saying
Give a man a position of power and you will see his true nature.
As soon as people get into positions of power most of them go on an ego trip and think they are above everybody else all of a sudden.
I had an assistant coach that was cool with all of us, we consider him to be part of the “boys”. As soon as he got promoted to a head coach position, wow, the change.
No more talking, no more fooling around, he as all business, overnight.
And we all resent him for that because we missed our “buddy”, but he let ego take control of him and he was looking at us from above.
Nobody in the team liked that and we end up having a terrible season.
The smartest people I know, such as Kovač that I mention in a few of my Driven videos, have defeated their ego.
He was the smartest man I know and yet he would always listen to people talk without interrupting them even tho he knows way more on the subject.
People with ego issues are quick to “let you know how smart they are”.
When you win, your ego makes you feel superior and we always expect a reward from our successes.
But if we lose our ego crush us down and make us feel small as ants and frustrated, ofter we want to share that “frustration” with the world and in the process, we hurt people we love.
Crush your ego and realize that you do not need a reward every time you win at something or a punishment if you fail.
Tips on how to control your ego:
- Don’t take it all so personally. Remember that people can have a shity day as well and might say something bad, and apologize later about it. Don’t JUMP HARD at any statement.
- Accept your mistakes.
So you make a mistake, wow, big deal, if it is not life-threatening don’t overthink it. If you did wrong to somebody go apologize to them and, you will feel better after it. Trust me.
- Don’t worry about looking stupid
people with ego issues have a tough time not been “perfect” when in reality there is no such thing. Nobody is perfect.
- You are not the best
You are not! Know your limitations! You cant be an expert in basketball if you never play a single game. Recognize that you are great at something but there are other people who are also great.
- Stop bragging
Just STOP! Let others talk good about you.
- Compliment others!
You will feel better and people will like you more if you honestly compliment them rather than taking all the “prize” for yourself. Compliments will boost your personality amongst your peers.
