No such thing as FREE
Free apps are making money in these three ways:
As soon as you download one of these let’s say fitness free apps, ever notice how various fitness or gym gear is marketing their product to you.
This is usually made via google Adwords where they target a specific audience and send them their product regardless of where they are online.
If you download a free fitness app you will instantly see the ad either at the beginning of the app or in the middle of the workout or at the bottom of the app, but it’s there.
In app purchase
This is mostly reserved for the games.
If you have your character but you want to have another SKIN or some kind of additional magic (read If you want to cheat) you will have to buy that.
That is a big big business.
People will spend crazy amount of money to upgrade their virtual dog 😀
Selling your data
This is a fun one..
SELLING YOUR DATA!
Ever wondered how WhatsApp is making money when they don’t advertise anything?
There is a saying:
If you are not buying the product, YOU ARE A PRODUCT
Remember those I AGREE that we are all so eager to skip thru.
Well, the real money is there.
Facebook or now Meta has purchased WhatsApp for 19. billion dollars and the app is showing now a return on investment. Well, not thru the WhatsApp app at least.
There are using your data (name, gender, number, email..= so that they can make even better marketing to you.
Bottom line is
We are selling our privacy for a free app
Most people do not believe that WhatsApp or Viber or Messenger or any other online social platform do not use our data in a “bad” manner but still, we get it and use it because it’s FREE.
It’s a closed circle for many.
Since I watch this from a marketing side in all reality somebody has given us a free app that we can use and share various things and somebody paid good money to keep those people and servers up and running.
Having and its infrastructure are not free, not even close.
