LOOKS vs VALUE

DON'T BE A GOLDEN DONKEY!
They say “Dress for the job you want” or “Dress to impress” right?
Is that true?
Following my Constructive feedback video on Driven 18, one of the feedback I received was that I should dress more professionally in my videos.
I can understand why that is. If one is in a suit or a tie people might perceive him/her as more important and more knowledgeable right?
But is that the case?
If so then why did Steve Jobs only wear his black turtle neck, blue jeans, and New Balance shoes?
Why does Mrk Zuckerberg, owner of Facebook, wears gray t-shirts and jeans and not a 3 peat suit?
You know Johny cash only wore black? Here is as another example.
But why? These people had money and they could wear whatever.
They could easily wear gold if they wanted to!
They had better things to think about!
Ok, they are special stories for themself but this not being professional might even be a part of personal branding.
They didn’t want to lose valuable time on making such low-level decisions so they decided just to wear the same thing over and over.
One research said that the average human makes up to 35 000 decision in a day!
35 000 a day!
That’s a lot.
Decision such as what to eat, what door to open, who to call etc…
Jobs, Zuckerberg, and others make their life easier by not thinking about what to wear and just wear the same thing over and over.
I believe that its important that you feel comfortable and confident in what you are wearing.
The question is?
Does my suit makes me?
Will my content be better if I wear a tie?
Would I be smarter if I wear a button down shirt?
Storytime
One of the best stories I have and want to share with you!
I was in the office with my idol Josip Kovač.
The company we were working fr was going thru the due diligence process.
One day these James Bond look-alike walks in our office with his great black silk suit and a leather bag, looking great and feeling himself.
He takes out these 3 documents and wants Kovač to take a look at them and make a decision and sign on one of them.
Now Kovač was as simple as it can get.
Grey pants, gray vest, and black shoes. Day in and day out!
Kovač glances at one document and said “If we chose this option we will have to fire approximately 60% of our workforce, right?”
This James Bond was all like “How the hell did he know that he just glance at it for 10 seconds?”
Then Kovac looks at another document and said “With this one, we will probably have to close 30% of our stores, correct?”
Bond was again “How in the hell does he knows all this so quickly?”
Kovač then looks at the 3rd document and said “This one is illegal so we will not even talk about it!”
The James Bond got sooo quiet. Mr. James bond lost for words.
Kovač then said best sentence ever!
We have a saying if you put a golden watch on a donkey. He is still a donkey!
Meaning
Regardless of how you look and what you wear is the importance of the value, the knowledge, the personality that you bring.
James Bond looked pretty shiny next to an all gray old man when it comes to value.
With all being said.
I like to dress like this, urban let’s say.
I know that my content will not be better if I was doing my videos or any of my content while wearing a suit on.
I also show that I would love to do business with people who dress like me, the cool generation haha
Dress however you feel but bring value to the table and get the job done.
When it comes to the looks I believe that the word Presentable would best describe it.
be Presentable!
Don’t have a big stain on you, iron whatever you are wearing, and don’t smell bad haha
Nobody has a value from somebody that looks great from the outside and it is empty on the inside.
Especially when it comes to business.
You want to be involved with people of value and not just people of great looks. because looks will pass eventually.
what is your opinion on this subject?
