WORK FROM HOME

PROS AND CONS OF WORKING FROM HOME
So the New Now is here! Whatever that means 😀
Amazon
Microsoft
Adobe
MasterCard…
Are all letting their employees work from home permanently if they choose to do so.
I encourage it!
Since the pandemic started lots of people were forced to work from home, as well as I did, and some adapt to it well, and some not that much.
I had no problem working from home!
I was working from home for 2 months and in that time, with doing all my tasks I also:
– Started this blog
– Started my YouTube channel
– Started my Facebook page
– Enroll in several online courses
– Among other things
There are many pros and cons to working from home.
Let’s check them out.
PROS Of WORKING FROM HOME
1. YOU OWN WORK SCHEDULE
Don’t know about you but I like to organize my day and work at my own pace while listening to loud music 😀
I like the idea that I can do the work I need to do at a time that is more convenient to me, late at night, and when I feel most creative.
Sure I would look at the emails during the day and answer phone calls but for the actual job that needs to be done, I would do it at night.
Also, working on my own schedule provides me a good work-life balance.
2. LESS DRIVING
Chances are you have to drive to work.
I know I did, and I been doing it for the last 6 years now. I drive 40-45 min to work in one direction if the traffic is good.
So I spend almost 2 hours PER DAY on driving.
So working from home allows me to spend 2 hours more on being more productive, having more time for kisisng, huging and family loving 😀
Less travel is a big + for me.
3. NEW SKILLS
If you are not all that tech-savvy you will probably need to learn how to use new programs and learn, or improve, on some of your skills, like communicating for example.
With “New now” or “New normal” people had to still do online meetings and stay in the loop with their jobs and that is where ZOOM as an online platform emerged greatly.
Zoom, Skype, Teams are just some of the programs people started to use on a daily basis, including me, to keep up with the work and the colleagues.
So with that being said in this pandemic, I learned how to organize online meetings, how to be admin of them and I believe I improved my technical as well as communication skills.
CONS OF WORKING FROM HOME
1. COFFEE WITH YOUR FAVORITE COLLEAGUE
Yes, I do drink coffee and I love it.
What I also love is that before work 2-3 of us guys at the office talk about sports and daily events that happened.
That is kind of a smooth transition from ordinary to professional. We do talk about work as well but that is at the end of the coffee 😀
I like that personal information exchange early in the morning.
Even during my work from home, I had virtual coffee with same colleagues 😀
Virtual is virtual but in person is better.
2. HOUSE DISTRACTION
When I first started working from home, the first 3 days was very challenging because of the home distraction such as my kid wanting playtime, had to feed her when I supposed to be on a Zoom call then she will fail and cry, had to clean the house, the good Nba game is on tv…
It can be really challenging to organize and have a productive day.
How I manage to do that you can be found in my 1st ever YouTube video 😀
3. ADITIONAL EXPENSES
You might just not have the right tool or equipment to do online work.
Your computer might be old and slow, your camera might have broken, you don’t have a stable internet connection or there is something wrong with your headphones…
All of that will bring new unexpected expenses.
CONCLUSION
Even tho there are pros and cons I believe that working from home is a good thing if you can stay professional.
If your work does not suffer and you get all tasks done I believe we should all have at least an option to be asked if we would love to work from home or at the office.
Professionals will get the job done and nobody will ever know if they are in the office or not.
I personally support big companies allowing their employees the option of working from home and I believe there will be a lot more of it and more companies will provide their people with the same option.
